22 Apr 2008Love triangle is big focus of two-hour 'Lost' finale
When "Lost" showrunners Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse finished the first draft of the season finale script, it was 80 pages long — about 25 pages more than a typical teleplay for the show. And thus a two-hour season finale was born.
"We had an eight-hour story planned (for the second half of the season) that got condensed to five initially as a result of the strike," Lindelof told reporters on a conference call. "Trying to cram all that story in — around the finale, the rubber hit the road, and we realized that it all felt very rushed and we were shortchanging the emotional moments, the character moments.
"So we read the 80-page first draft and we said, 'There's no way we're going to be able to cut this down to a 55-page script. Why don't we expand it to 100?' "
The "Lost" finale, titled "There's No Place Like Home," will actually be a three-part story, beginning with the May 15 episode and concluding with a two-hour event May 29 (the show is off on May 22 to make room for the finale of "Grey's Anatomy"). Lindelof and Cuse strongly suggested that the finale will reveal how the Oceanic 6 come to leave the island and the ramifications it has for those characters and those left behind.
"All I can say is, Sawyer isn't one of the Oceanic 6 and Jack and Kate are," Lindelof says, referring to the ongoing love triangle between Josh Holloway's, Evangeline Lilly's and Matthew Fox's characters. "It will obviously be a huge focus in the final three hours of the show that comprise the finale in terms of how that series of events transpires, and ultimately what happens to Sawyer."
Among the things that may not be revealed by season's end, however, are the backstories of the "freighter folk," the new characters introduced at the top of the season. "Some of that will be deferred to next season," he says.
The two showrunners are also hoping to, as Lindelof puts it, leave viewers asking, "What the hell are they gonna do?" with the finale, hinting at another possible change in the narrative structure of the show.
"There might come a time in the show where the word 'flash' becomes irrelevant," Lindelof says. "If you stop and think about what we've done this year, there's the story on the island which we perceive to be the present, then there's the story of the Oceanic 6, which is happening off the island in the future.
"But if you were to switch perspectives and were off the island, focusing on the Oceanic 6 trying to get back, that would be the present, and what happened back on the island would be either a parallel present, a possible future, a possible past, who knows. When you hear the 'whoosh' noise, the question becomes, where does it take you?"

22 Apr 2008LOST - MONAGHAN AND LILLY REUNITE?
Former LOST co-stars DOMINIC MONAGHAN and EVANGELINE LILLY have rekindled their relationship, according to reports. The pair split late last year (07) after Monaghan's character Charlie was killed off on Lost, and the British actor left the show's Hawaii location. But Monaghan and Lilly were spotted together at the opening of Monaghan's recent photography exhibition in Los Angeles, and sources claim they are a couple again. A friend tells Star magazine, "She remained in Hawaii for the show, and he moved back to L.A. so the distance took its toll. "They decided to take a break, but it was really hard on them both." After staying touch, things are now back on track, the source claims: "They never stopped loving each other."

22 Apr 2008Evangeline Lilly new Coty face
Lost star Evangeline Lilly has signed up as the new face of Coty fragrance, Cool Water Woman.

Cool Water now has two of the hit TV show's biggest stars fronting their campaign, as fellow Lost actor Josh Holloway is already the face of the male version of the fragrance, Cool Water Men.

Lilly, who plays Kate Austen, will be seen in TV and print adverts from July this year. This is the first time that she has signed up to front an advertising campaign.

She commented that the scent, 'definitely represents the juxtaposition between purity and sensuality, and there's that sort of fresh newness. On top of it, there's strength that's underneath it all, that is where sensuality comes from — versus just pure sexiness.'

22 Feb 2008Evangeline Lilly 'Allergic' to hawaii
Lost star Evangeline Lily has revealed she is ALLERGIC to Hawaii.

The 28-year-old actress says she keeps getting sick on the island where the hit US drama is filmed. And she confessed she suffers cabin fever if she spends too long in the idyllic setting without getting away.

Lily, who plays Kate Austen in Lost, told David Letterman she gets all sorts of allergic reactions in Hawaii. “I’m allergic to Hawaii. Everything in Hawaii makes me react in some way,” she said. “I’ve spent the last four years constantly with allergic reactions or sick or whatever else.”

The brunette actress said she even picked up an eye infection as she was traveling to New York to appear on Letterman’s chat show. The audience gasped as the talk show host showed a picture of Lily’s eye looking red and swollen. “Right as I was packing for this trip, something - some spoor or something - got in my eye and I could feel it,” she explained.

“That instant itch happened and I just started going on my eye. I realized: ‘Cut back or you’re going to make it worse and it’s going to start swelling’.

“It more than swelled. The pink wet flesh around the inside of my eye started closing in on my pupil.

“That’s not sexy. There’s nothing sexy about that.”

Lily said she headed for Japan as soon as the Hollywood Writer’s Strike was announced - because she gets ‘island fever’ if she spends too long in Hawaii. “It’s this tropical paradise and it’s beautiful and it’s amazing, but - not unlike Japan - it’s got a very lackluster nightlife,” she explained.

“Let me qualify that because I actually don’t have a clue what Japan’s nightlife if like.

“When I was there I went looking for it and I felt like I was in Lost In Translation.

“I felt like I was in that film because everywhere I looked, the closest thing I’d come to finding a nightclub or a bar - or anywhere I could dance - was VIP rooms with male escorts.

“That was the extent of it,” she laughed. “All the male escorts in Japan have this died long golden blonde hair.”

22 Feb 2008A close encounter with Evangeline Lilly
Karen Tay meets the star of one of the most confusing shows on television, Evangeline Lilly from Lost, and talks shoes and success.

am standing in a lift with Evangeline Lilly. She smiles at me and stares at my feet.

"Pretty shoes," she whispers to her publicist, then turns around to me and repeats it in a louder voice.

It is late 2007 and we are going up to her room in a swanky Auckland waterfront hotel. The 28-year-old, who plays Kate Austen on TV show Lost, is here with then-fiance, former fellow cast member Dominic Monaghan (they've reportedly since split).

Her biggest wish, she claims, is to holiday in New Zealand incognito an increasingly challenging task for the woman voted eighth in FHM's 100 Sexiest Women in the World the previous year.

With the Hauraki Gulf's sparkling blue water as a backdrop, Lilly's porcelain skin and petite features look like they belong in an old-fashioned oil painting.

She wears a white knitted shawl, tank top and jeans, with her hair done up in a French twist a far cry from paparazzi photos of her cavorting in the sand on Hawaiian beaches dressed in teeny-tiny bikinis.

She starts making us tea before it's gently suggested that perhaps this isn't the best use of interview time. But neither is she some naive, small-town girl, unused to dealing with media attention.

I ask Lilly if she's planning to do any surfing or tree-climbing while in New Zealand (her nickname on set is "Monkey"), and she laughs resignedly.

"I'm capable of doing adventure sports but they don't interest me. I know the media has painted this picture of me, that I'm this intense tomgirl/tomboy who's all about extreme sports but that's just a load of crap. I mean, I love to climb trees, I love nature, I surf, and I like to use my body. But 99% of my spare time is spent reading, writing, walking I like docile activities."

03 Feb 2008'Lost' roars back with Thurs. win
ABC got a boost Thursday night from a familiar band of castaways.

The fourth-season premiere of "Lost" (16.1 million, 6.7 rating/17 share in adults 18-49) towered over the competition in viewership and 18-49, Nielsen Media Research said late Friday. It was up strongly from last year's season finale (13.7 million, 5.8/15), no doubt in part to not having to face "American Idol" like it did in May when it aired on Wednesday and not Thursday.

It was down 15% in viewers and 13% in 18-49 compared with last year's season premiere (18.8 million, 7.7/19) but "Lost" had its best ratings since the part-season finale Nov. 8, 2006, and was above its season average last year.

This time around, "Lost" faced the two-hour NBC's "Celebrity Apprentice" (7.8 million, 3.2/8) and Fox's "Don't Forget the Lyrics" (10.1 million, 3.3/8).

Even a "Lost" clip show (13.2 million, 5.0/13) easily won the 8 p.m. hour over Fox's "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?" (10.6 million, 3.1/8) and repeats the whole night on CBS.

The "Lost" halo didn't much help the heavily promoted "Eli Stone" (11.1 million, 4.0/11), which shed 5 million viewers after "Lost" ended, while the second hour of "Celebrity Apprentice" gained steam after "Lost" ended.

ABC (13.5 million, 5.3/14) convincingly won the night in viewership and 18-49 against CBS (10.2 million, 2.3/6); NBC (6.8 million, 2.8/7); Fox (10.3 million, 3.2/8); and the CW (3.4 million, 1.4/4).

30 Jan 2008Feeling Lost? Here's Our Guide to Kate Austen
SPOILER WARNING!
Our favorite castaways thus far have been on the island a few months, but for Lost fans, it's been more than 260 days since Jack's super-freaky flash-forward. As the Jan. 31 season premiere (finally) draws closer, TVGuide.com is offering daily profiles — "refreshers," if you will — of the key players in ABC's island-based odyssey.
Kate, by the "Numbers": Raised in rural Iowa, Kate (Evangeline Lilly) learned that Wayne, the alcoholic and abusive man dating her mother, Diane, was actually her biological father. Hoping to ease her mother's pain, Kate rigged the house to blow up, with Wayne in it, so Diane could get the insurance money. Now a fugitive, it became a cat-and-mouse game across the country with determined U.S. Marshal Mars on her tail. Taking several aliases, Kate ultimately fled to Australia and worked on a farm. When the owner noticed Kate's picture at the post office, he notified the authorities. Captured, Kate and Mars were en route to the U.S. when Oceanic Flight 815 crashed.

20 Jan 2008The Lost Cast Talks About How Life Has Changed
Lost, ABC’s phenomenal mind-boggling adventure series returns to the primetime schedule, Thursday, January 31. Although the producers promise they will answer some questions, you can bet they will also leave viewers with brand new puzzle pieces to ponder.
The last time I personally saw the cast of Lost was last year as they were in Pasadena, on hiatus from their Hawaiian location filming. It felt like I was in the middle of the Dharma Project, which is at the center of the show’s mysteries. Jack (Matthew Fox) and Kate (Evangeline Lilly), plus Charlie (Dominic Monaghan) were taking a stroll around the Ritz-Carlton Hotel before an ABC promotional event. Hurley (Jorge Garcia) was going out for a drive with friends. The Korean couple, Jin and Sun (Daniel Dae Kim and Yunjin Kim), were also there making new friends. And everybody’s favorite bad boy Sawyer (Josh Holloway) was relaxing poolside, soaking up the sun.
It was as if the survivors of Oceanic Air flight 815 had been rescued and their lives were back to normal. Not a chance!
Jorge Garcia explained that their lives haven’t been “normal” since the series debuted. “I still haven’t gotten comfortable with the attention, but I appreciate that the fans care about my character,” Garcia said. He added that one of the most difficult aspects about being part of the production is keeping up with all the different storylines involving different cast members on the island. “Sometimes it feels like there are two different shows going on, or more, as the storylines take strange turns.”
Yunjin Kim has arguably been the most surprising character to emerge from all the plot twists. And she admitted that she loves the way the show has personally changed her life.
“It seems it changed overnight. Wow! I have a recognizable face walking down the street,” Kim beamed. “I worked out in Korea for about four or five years before coming out to do Lost. I was very lucky, getting great roles and great movies (in Korea). I became a recognizable face there, but this is different. This is world wide. Lost is being shown in more than 200 countries.”
Besides “instant” fame, what she loves most about the show is that “it asks all the questions that we ask as human beings-- the humanities, why are we here? Who are we? There’s got to be a reason. And I feel like there are deeper issues, such as creating a society with a bunch of strangers, something that not too many TV series deal with. Then there’s the specter of the monster…the polar bear…the jungle. It has everything to make us think.”

The overall tone of the clip is jarringly ominous. Words flash quickly across the screen, Kate (Evangeline Lilly) looks up to the sky in horror, Hurley (Jorge Garcia) peers into a mysterious room, and Jack (Matthew Fox) and Sawyer (Josh Holloway) are both seen brandishing guns. As we saw in the season 3 finale, it's apparent that people are coming to the island and our castaways are in great danger. It looks like there's going to be a lot of action and horror when the "rescuers" finally arrive.
The most intriguing clip in the trailer is a shot of Charlie (Dominic Monaghan), dressed rather nicely and removing a pair of sunglasses. Fans will recall that Charlie died in the season 3 finale, so we can only speculate as to why he's showing up here. My guess is that he'll be featured in someone's flashback, but like so many things about Lost, whose and why remains a mystery.

20 Jan 2008Lost Season 3 DVD Review
Say what you will about season three of LOST - for the record, we had a lot to say about it - but they know how to put together a sweet DVD set. If you're any kind of fan of the show, including the kind that rails against the writers to an unhealthy degree, you will see LOST Season Three on DVD for the TV-addict crack that it is.
If this is the first time you're seeing the show, don't jump in here; you'll be hopelessly... lost. If you're already a LOST fan, you know how gorgeous the show is, and all 23 Hawaii-filled episodes of season three are captured beautifully here. Whether you'll find them tolerable is another story, but your best chance to enjoy this inconsistent season of television is like this - as much LOST-per-night as you can stomach, with no commercial interruption and no week-long wait between episodes. The painfully slow emergence of useful information in the great mysteries of the series is easier to swallow when it unfolds in days instead of months.
However, if you're more than a casual viewer - and we're not sure we believe in casual viewers of LOST - the real meat of the set is the bonus features disc. The wait since the end of the broadcast season has been interminable, and this disc will feed your hunger like a banquet. It's enormous, and genuinely entertaining. The deleted scenes, while plentiful, are actually the weakest link - you can see why they were cut, and they don't add much (including an amusing, though predictably pointless, introduction to Nikki and Paulo). The behind-the-scenes featurettes are organized by episode - there are a bunch of them and they're more in-depth and longer than you expect. A tribute to the crew, hosted by Evangeline Lilly, is a throw-away at first glance, but turns out to be surprisingly watchable. The "Secrets of the Others" feature gives away little, but for a hungry fan, it's an acceptable snack. "The Lost Book Club" explores the numerous literary references employed by the delightfully nerdy writing staff.
With hours more of "Lost Flashbacks," bloopers, a making-of featurette called "Lost in a Day," and commentaries, you'd have to be a hard-core complainer to find fault with LOST Season Three on DVD. We tried, and failed. We'll be glued to the TV again for season four, drooling in anticipation, deeply chagrined.

20 Jan 2008Evangeline Lilly's Lost Love Split
'Lost' stars Evangeline Lilly and Dominic Monaghan have reportedly split.
The British-born actor - whose rock star character Charlie Pace was killed off in the hit US TV show - was seen crying in the arms of another woman at a Los Angeles restaurant on Saturday night (03.11.07).
Onlookers at the El Coyote eatery also claim the pair spent a lot of time kissing and cuddling.
A source told the New York Post newspaper: "They were right in the middle of the room, they weren't interested in privacy. They looked very intimate. They were nursing margaritas, leaning in, chain-smoking, having an intense conversation."
Earlier this year, it was claimed Evangeline and Dominic were engaged after the 'Lord of the Rings' star proposed during a holiday in Hawaii.
A source said: "They want to spend the rest of their lives together."
The couple began dating over two years after meeting on the set of 'Lost'.
Both have repeatedly refused to speak publicly about their relationship.
